How Corn Changed Itself and Then Changed Everything Else

Road Scholar speaker, from the Illinois Humanities, Cynthia Clampitt, came to the library on 9/24 and gave a wonderful presentation about a common crop we all know by telling stories, antidotes, and bits of trivia on how it change early America and the Midwest into something new. Some people  might consider corn a mundane topic, but Cynthia was able to make it interesting and exciting.

The hour long presentation fascinated the audience with information that without corn we wouldn’t have the Chicago Bears or even Chicago, Fritos, whiskey and maybe even vampires without corn.

This presentation was made possible by a grant from the Illinois Humanities.

As of July 1, 2021 the Paw Paw Public Library District will be fine free. We will no longer be charging for late books and DVD’s. Patrons will still be responsible/charged for the cost of damaged, lost and replacement items. If this occurs patrons will not be able to check out more items until the cost is paid.

Any item overdue by 30 days will be considered lost.

You do not need to wait until July 1 to turn in a book(s) if already late. Please turn in now and we will wave all fees. This includes books from inter library loan. If you already have fees/fines they are now waved also.

Due to rising costs, As of July 1, 2025, a non-resident library card will be $70 for twelve months (one year). This card is for the whole family.

The Read Anything Book Club meets the third Wednesday of every month at 6:00pmin the Reading/Conference Room. Come in through the back entrance and up the stairs. Feel free to bring snacks. Check out the books from our 10/15 meeting. This was also the first meeting of the Family/Children’s Read Anything Book Club.

The next Board of Trustees Meeting for the Paw Paw Public Library District will be Tuesday, January 27th @ 6:30pm in the library’s conference/reading room. The Board Meetings are always the fourth Tuesday of the month, except December when the Board does not meet. Enter through the back entrance. The Public is always welcome.
